When should I change the needle in my sewing machine?

When should you change your sewing machine needle? Part 1 - troubleshooting

So when should you change your sewing machine needle? Sometimes it’s obvious when your sewing machine needle needs changing - it’s snapped or bent as you are sewing and rendered itself unusable! It’s not always obvious though when there is a problem with your needle. It can have become blunt especially if you have been testing it with a few tough fabrics or it can bend ever so slightly - not enough to be instantly noticeable but enough to affect your stitches.

So if you are having problems with your stitches, maybe they are not quite right or are bobbling underneath, and you have rethreaded your machine, rethreaded it again and checked your tension and your stitches are still causing the air around you to be blue and you wan to throw your sewing machine out the window (don’t worry we have all been there!) then try changing your needle - it might just save your sanity!

Part 2 - different fabrics and the needles they need is coming soon….

Happy sewing xx
